Day 18
Sat May 19, 2001

Hi all,
Today was a great adventure. We went to high peaks, then to lush lakes, then on to a rain forest, and then to a beach on the Pacific. These pictures are awesome.

We traveled around Olympic N.P. then down to Cape Disappointment and then on to Longview which is not far to Mt St Helen.
All in all a little over 400 miles.

The morning started out with us meeting this nice deer on the way up to Hurricane Ridge
look out.

At 5757 feet the snow was still quite deep but the road was clear. We noticed that the temp
dropped down to 34 and the wind was about 20mph so it felt like 10 below.

On the way down we stopped at a lookout and Prilly used her charm to sweet talk this
sweetie almost on her finger. . . .

Just before we got to this beautiful lake I realized that I had left my prescription sun glasses at our motel when we checked out. So off we went to fetch them, 30 miles of backtracking. Lucky for me they were still there. So 1 hour later we got to Lake Crescent. Must be the Lord wanted more light on it when I took this picture. What a blue lake and what a sunny day.

Then we traveled to Hoh Rain Forest where they have 140-160 inches of rain a year. Do you know how many
real sunny days they have here, 30 - 40 tops and guess what? We got one. The temp is 32 low and 80 high all year round here.
It was about 60 so it couldn't have been nicer. Some of the trees here are over 300 ft tall. Yes, that is Prilly standing in front
of a stump. A Big Stump!

The water is crystal clear.

Boy I would like to put this one in my front yard, then I could climb up and see all over Florida.

On to the Pacific coast. Ruby Beach on Rt 101.

Prilly found this cool tree down near Cape Disappointment

Why Cape Disappointment? Well Prilly is reading all about this light house in one of
her romance novels, so she dragged me 100 miles out of the way just to see it.
She wasn't disappointed when she got there and neither was I.
We did have to walk 3/4 of a mile up hill to get to it but it was a pretty day and a nice walk.

Cape Disappointment Lighthouse  This has got to be the pic of the day. It looks like it ought to be a picture puzzle.

And just as the day started, at dusk on the way out of the park this guy said bye. . . . . .

Well, got long winded today, but as you can see we saw a lot and took over 100 pictures with at least 60 keepers,
so it was very hard to choose which to send you.
On to Mt. St. Helen tomorrow see you then.
